Threshing pits restoration

Img Restauracion

The work done in evaporation platforms has consisted primarily in the elimination the cause of much of the pathologies afflicting the valley, cement. After that, they have been rebuilt using the traditional way, by placing on top of the wooden plank a layer of clay to waterproof the whole and set boulders on top of it. The clay or 'greda' used for the sealing of the threshing pits and restored wells comes from a quarry opened for the occasion in near the valley.

During the restoration work all the building material still in good condition has been recycled, substituting only those elements that had a very advanced deterioration. When new wood was needed pine was chosen, because studies have demonstrated that is the dominant wood species in the valley. For its placement, wooden pegs have been used to join ligneous elements as the corrosive effect of salt prevents the use of metals for this purpose.
