Discover a new route to learn about the cultural and natural values that have led the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to name the Añana Salt Valley system an Important World Agricultural Heritage System, the first in Europe.

The new route through the salt mines does not focus on salt production, but dives into the heart of the system, the Santa Engracia spring. Surrounded by a botanical enclave, this saltwater spring supplies the entire salt farm by means of an ingenious system of wooden channels that, functioning like arteries in the human body, distributes the brine by gravity throughout the salt pans.

The route introduces an important novelty: the possibility of walking along a salt trail next to the riverbed that, at times, runs suspended over a wooden footbridge. In this way, it is possible to observe the different sediments that illustrate in a special way the geological history of the valley, but you can also enjoy the water and the halophilic flora and fauna in a very close way.

For more than 400 meters you will walk under the shadow of the salt crystallization beds, walking through the complex framework of wooden pillars to enjoy this unique architecture in the world.

Between the months of April and October this visit includes the possibility to enjoy the outdoor Salt Spa. In its facilities you can dip your feet and hands in the hypersaline waters coming from the springs. You will feel the beneficial effects of salt water.
